Qtrade Promotion: Promo Code, Cash Bonus and Transfer Offer

The code is OFFER2026 and it has to go on the application itself. Up to $5,000 cash back, plus a $100 sign-up bonus, for new Qtrade clients only. Applications close Jan 5, 2027 and the money has to be in by Feb 5, 2027, and then stay there until Feb 5, 2028. Whether it is worth doing turns on that wait and on what your current broker charges to let the money go.

Up to $5,000 cash back, plus a $100 sign-up bonus

New clients only

Ready to take this offer?

The code has to be on the account application form when you submit it, and the offer is open to new clients only. The money then stays put until Feb 5, 2028, which is the part worth reading the rest of this page about.

This is an affiliate link. If you open and fund a Qtrade account through it, FolioNorth may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It never affects our review, our ratings, or how we rank products by value, apart from breaking an exact tie in the transfer-offers calculator. See our full disclosure.

Online brokerage services are offered through Qtrade Direct Investing, a division of Aviso Financial Inc.

What the current Qtrade offer pays

Up to $5,000 cash back, plus a $100 sign-up bonus, for new Qtrade clients only. Qtrade sets out how the cash back is banded on its own offer page; this page states the maximum rather than reproducing that structure.

The sign-up bonus carries its own conditions, in Qtrade's words: New clients only; fund the new account with at least $25,000 within the first 30 days of account opening. Paid on or around March 5, 2027.

Applications close Jan 5, 2027. The money has to be in the account by Feb 5, 2027 and has to stay there until Feb 5, 2028, with the cash back paid on or around Mar 5, 2028. We checked all four dates against Qtrade's terms on Sep 1, 2026.

What it's worth after the transfer fee

If your current broker charges to transfer an account out, that fee comes off the top. Qtrade covers it up to $150 per client once you clear $15,000. Anything past the cap you absorb yourself.

Then there is the wait. The money is committed until Feb 5, 2028, and the payment follows on or around Mar 5, 2028.

The transfer-bonus calculator runs that subtraction against every offer we track, for whatever amount and exit fee you are actually dealing with.

Who should take this offer

  • You had already settled on Qtrade, and the only open question was when to move.
  • You are new to Qtrade, since the offer is open to new clients only.
  • Your transfer clears $15,000, which is the point where the exit-fee reimbursement starts to apply.
  • You can leave the money alone until Feb 5, 2028 and wait until Mar 5, 2028 to be paid.

Who should skip it

  • You are already a Qtrade client. New clients only, and moving your own money around inside Qtrade earns nothing.
  • There is any chance you need the money back before Feb 5, 2028, since withdrawing early cuts the qualifying amount.
  • You do not actually want to bank with Qtrade. A one-time payment is a poor reason to sit somewhere for years, so settle that question on its own merits in the full review.
  • Your transfer will not reach $15,000, so the exit fee comes out of your pocket. Either way, do the subtraction before you commit.

The fine print you should keep in mind

The dates are fixed, not rolling. The hold ends Feb 5, 2028 and the cash back is paid on or around Mar 5, 2028 whether you applied on the first day of the offer or the last, so the later you apply the less time your money is committed.

Withdrawals during the hold are what cost you. Qtrade measures qualifying funds net of what you take out across your Direct Investing accounts, and the account has to stay in good standing through to payout. Market movement does not have the same effect.

The exit-fee reimbursement is a separate errand from the bonus, and an easy one to forget. Qtrade wants the statement from your old broker showing the charge, sent in with your account number. Nothing prompts you, and unclaimed means unpaid.

How to claim it

  1. 1Confirm you qualify before anything else. This offer is open to new Qtrade clients only.
  2. 2Apply by Jan 5, 2027 with OFFER2026 entered on the application. The terms require the code to be on the application form itself, so an application sent without it does not meet that condition. Worth double-checking before you submit.
  3. 3Fund the account by Feb 5, 2027, then leave the money in place until Feb 5, 2028.
  4. 4For the sign-up bonus, meet Qtrade's own conditions: New clients only; fund the new account with at least $25,000 within the first 30 days of account opening. Paid on or around March 5, 2027.
  5. 5Claim the exit-fee reimbursement, which is a separate step and not automatic. Send Qtrade the statement from your old broker showing the charge, together with your Qtrade account number, and expect the credit to take some weeks.

How Qtrade's promo codes work

Qtrade cycles through campaigns and tends to leave the old terms pages up long after they close, which is why searching for a code turns up so many of them. A code can be perfectly genuine and still be useless to you, either because its campaign ended or because it was aimed at a group you are not in.

Deadlines go stale faster than anything else on those pages. When Qtrade extends an offer, third-party write-ups often keep quoting the original dates for weeks. Check them against Qtrade's own terms rather than against whichever roundup you landed on.

Two rules have held across Qtrade's recent campaigns. You get one offer per client, and the code goes on the application form at the moment you submit it. A new campaign can set either differently, so read the terms of the one you are applying for.

How this compares to other brokers' offers

Only the headline number gets advertised, and it is the least useful of the three. Subtract the exit fee your old broker charges that the new one will not cover, then spread what remains across the months you are locked in. A percentage match and a flat tiered bonus can look nothing like each other until you have done that, which is why the ranking on our offers page is built on net annualised value rather than on the advertised amount.

Worth remembering that the bonus is the smaller question. A platform charging you more every year overtakes a one-time payment soon enough. The transfer-bonus calculator handles the first half with your real numbers, the brokerage comparison hub covers the second, and if you expect to hold US-listed positions at Qtrade, the currency costs are worked through in the Norbert's gambit guide for Qtrade.

Is Qtrade worth using once the bonus is paid?

Qtrade dropped commissions on Canadian and US stocks and ETFs and scrapped its quarterly account fee in the same announcement, which took away the two things that used to keep it off most shortlists. What remains to weigh is currency conversion, where Norbert's gambit costs nothing but a USD registered account carries a quarterly charge that Investor Plus clients have waived, alongside a solid, functional app and a strong desktop platform. All of it is worked through in our Qtrade review.

Frequently asked questions

What is the current Qtrade promo code?+
The current Qtrade offer uses code OFFER2026. Qtrade's terms require the application form to have the code applied to it and to be submitted inside the offer period, so an application sent without it does not meet that condition. If you have already applied without it, ask Qtrade before assuming either way.
Can an existing Qtrade client claim the cash-back promotion?+
No. This offer is open to new Qtrade clients only, so if you already hold a Qtrade Direct Investing account you are not eligible for it. Moving money between your own Qtrade accounts does not count as net new funds either.
How long do I have to leave the money at Qtrade?+
Until Feb 5, 2028. That is a fixed date rather than a rolling term, so applying earlier means a longer commitment and applying later a shorter one. Withdrawing before it reduces the qualifying amount and can reduce or eliminate the bonus.
When does the Qtrade cash bonus arrive?+
On or around Mar 5, 2028, which is after the hold ends on Feb 5, 2028. It does not arrive when you open the account or when the transfer settles. The sign-up bonus is paid on its own schedule; Qtrade's conditions for it are quoted above.
What is the deadline to fund the account?+
You have to apply by Jan 5, 2027 and have the money in by Feb 5, 2027. Both are stated in Qtrade's terms for this campaign, and we last checked them on Sep 1, 2026.
Who is responsible for tax on the Qtrade cash bonus?+
You are. Qtrade's terms put the tax consequences of a cash-back offer on the client, so treat the bonus as taxable rather than assuming it arrives tax-free, and check your own situation with a tax professional.
Is Qtrade's transfer-fee credit automatic?+
No. An eligible transfer-fee reimbursement has to be claimed manually with a statement from the transferring institution showing the charge and the Qtrade account number. The credit is subject to Qtrade's eligibility terms and is separate from the cash bonus.
